Honors Program
At Scott Community College we value academic scholarship and excellence. Superior students are challenged, encouraged and recognized through various activities in our Honors Program.
The program is open to every student who qualifies and is interested in participating. Students must meet certain academic eligibility requirements for admission to the Honors Program.
Participants are invited to complete four Honors Projects during their enrollment at Scott Community College. Projects are initiated by students and mentored by faculty, enabling students to pursue their interests within the confines of a course they are already taking.
Projects may be interdisciplinary, and may include community components. To be complete in a period of eight weeks to a full semester, each project will give students unique one-on-one educational opportunities, challenge them academically, and at the same time prepare them for transfer or an outstanding career. Successful completion of Honors Projects will be noted on a student's transcript, and at least one of the four projects will be presented at a special event for the entire college community.
To graduate with honors, a student must complete four projects and an Honors Seminar. The seminar is a Human Development course offered on a regular basis. It provides the participants with academic challenges and learning opportunities beyond regular curricular offerings. With their Honors Program colleagues, and through a variety of classroom and field activities, students will be challenged to use critical and creative thinking processes. Guest speakers from the community and academic departments will be invited to lead discussions and present enriching activities.
In order to be eligible to enroll in the Honors Seminar, a student must have completed at least one of the four Honors Projects required by the Honors Program.
