The Fine Arts are alive and well at Clinton Community College. A dedicated committee of faculty, staff and students work diligently each year to provide a number of opportunities for students. Among their many projects are the annual Communication Arts Day, the college's drama productions and a wide array of trips.

Communication Arts Day

Truck painting is one of many crazy fine arts activities at Clinton Community CollegeForty area high school students participated in this year's Communication Arts Day. The focus of the day is to provide the students with a number of opportunities to learn more about the arts.  Poet Michelle Taransky and fiction writer Jason England from the University of Iowa Writer’s Workshop led the students in writing exercises, shared their own writing and discussed how to get their work published.  In addition, Rick Davis from Comedy Sportz of the Quad Cities taught the students hilarious improvisational comedy exercises, Gary Determan from 1340 AM KROS radio in Clinton talked about the field of radio broadcasting, and Peg Walker from the Eastern Iowa Community College District presented on interpersonal communication styles.

Rehearsals for Clinton Community College productionSimilarly, two years ago, the presenters included Kay Luna from the Quad City Times and Scott Holland from the Clinton Herald (journalism), Rick Davis from Comedy Sportz of the Quad Cities (improvisational comedy), Janet Winslow of CCC (script writing), and two writers from the University of Iowa Writer’s Workshop (poetry and fiction writing).

Drama

Clinton Community College's theatre productions are a great opportunity for both the novice actor as well as the experienced thespian. Auditions are open to all and productions often include those who have considerable experience at the high school level, working alongside students who have never been on the stage before.

Trips

Student artwork on displayThe Fine Arts group regularly sponsors trips to area art museums and theatre productions. The group often coordinates bus trips into Chicago, providing students and the public with the opportunity to see touring Broadway musicals.
