The city of Wilton officially opened the new Wilton Library and Community Center on October 6. The center is the culmination of several years worth of effort and fundraising.
The 23,000-square-foot complex, costing $3.25 million, is a joint effort between the Wilton Community Development Association, Wilton Library Foundation, City of Wilton and Eastern Iowa Community College District. The center is located across from Wilton High School at Cypress and Division Streets.
The new center includes library space, a community room capable of seating approximately 500 people at tables for large events, and classroom space for Muscatine Community College (a part of the Eastern Iowa Community College District.)
EICCD contributed $450,000 toward the project. The funding became available thanks to voter approval of a 2007 bond referendum. Muscatine Community College will be offering both college credit and continuing education classes in the new facility.
