The following is a list of outside organizations that provide scholarship opportunities for students. A number of these scholarships are intended for students attending one of our colleges while many others are open to students attending any higher education institution. American Business Women's Association

(The Bend of the River Chapter) ~ Deadline is April
These scholarships are open to any student, male or female, who are currently enrolled as a college sophomore or completed one year of college and have a 3.0 or higher GPA. Scholarships are not limited to those pursuing a degree in Business, but are open to those enrolled in any course of study in a higher education setting. Selection will be made on the basis of financial need and academic ability. You must submit a current transcript and the scholarship application.

American Legion Auxiliary,
First District Merit Award ~ Deadline is April
Merit Award applicants must be either a veteran or immediate relative of a veteran, resident of the First District, and be at least a high school senior.

American Legion of Iowa,
Foundation Scholarship ~ Deadline is April
In addition to the Legion's concern for disabled veterans, the Legion pledges to be of service to our community, state, and nation. Award monies are given for a research project or equipment requested by an individual and awarded to an institution for one year. Renewal applications are accepted.

American Society for
Industrial Security Scholarship ~ Deadline is October
Applicants must be either a full-time or part-time student and have completed one year of study at a recognized college, university or community college, declared criminology, criminal justice major or related professional security program, GPA 3.0 (4.0 scale) is required for graduate students. Undergraduate gpa requirement set by local ASIS chapter, minimum credit hours: 15 hours in criminology, criminal justice or related professional security program, related work or intern experiences a plus. Candidates will submit an application form and an official grade transcript, an institutional validation of program enrollment in a fully accredited college, university or community college, and a recommendation from a faculty member.

Arby's - Big Brothers,
Big Sisters of Muscatine ~ Deadline is March
Each applicant must have been a matched little brother or little sister in an affiliated Big Brothers Big Sisters program for at least one year. The match need not be current. Candidates will be selected based on a vision for the future, volunteer work, community involvement, academic achievement, extracurricular activities and financial need.

Business & Professional Women's Scholarship
(Muscatine) ~ Deadline is March
This scholarship is not restricted to women or to a four-year institution or to a business-related degree.

Disabled American Veterans Quad City Chapter Scholarship

An application for the DAV Quad Cities Chapter 2 Scholarship competition is enclosed and is available from DAV Quad Cities Chapter 2 or by e-mailing davqcch2@gmail.com or calling 563-324-6329. There are two $1000 scholarships available this year, one per winning applicant.

The Scholarship must be used for higher education: college, vocational/trade school and funds will be made directly to School/University. To compete for a DAV QC Ch. 2 Scholarship, an applicant must be able to substantiate that they meet the following criteria:

  • Be a member in good standing of the Disabled American Veterans Quad Cities Chapter 2 or
  • Be a spouse or direct descendant (child or grand child, niece or nephew) of a member in good standing of the Disabled American Veterans Quad Cities Chapter 2 and,
  • Be a senior in a public, parochial or independent school; GED recipient, or a student in good standing at an accredited college/university or vocational/trade school in the United States, taking studies leading to a degree, diploma or certificate of completion.


Compose a minimum 500-word essay on any of the following:

  • Is continuous low-level conflict America’s new defense/foreign policy paradigm?
  • What is the best way to honor our veterans?
  • Is the downsizing and privatizing of our Military in the best interest of our Military and our Country?


Essays will become the property of DAV Quad Cities Chapter 2. Essay will be judged on content, syntax, punctuation, originality and be suitable for publication. Essays will be in English, typewritten, double spaced, with all identifying information on the back of each page. Identifying information to include date, name, address, phone number and e-mail address. The DAV Quad City Chapter 2 Scholarship Committee will judge essay. To be eligible DAV Quad City Chapter 2 must receive essay and application no later than February 29, 2012. The Committee has the right to accept or decline any and all applicants. Winners will be notified by phone and/or correspondence. Scholarships will be sent directly to school.

Excellence in Education  ~ Deadline is February
Muscatine community schools student scholarships are awarded to 20 seniors with $2,000 and 10 eighth grade students with $1,000 scholarships to be used at the academic institution of their choice after they graduate. Selection is based on the student's eligibility and potential as demonstrated through the application and the letters of recommendation. A committee of teachers and community members will select the recipients. Community members, including teachers, administrators and parents may make nominations. All nominations must be accompanied by at least one letter of support from a school employee.

Muscatine community schools professional awards for support staff recognizes school employees who have demonstrated excellence within their profession with one $500 excellence award. This category includes transportation, food service, clerical, maintenance, secretarial and custodial employees. Nominations may be made by community members, including teachers, administrators and students.

HON Industries Charitable Foundation
This scholarship is available to high school graduating seniors who will attend MCC, Augustana College, Iowa Wesleyan College or St. Ambrose University. Contact your high school for a deadline and an application.

Illini Hospital Scholarship  ~ Deadline is November
This scholarship/loan program is for students who wish to attend an accredited college or university and after graduation from college, take a position with Illini Hospital in specified medical areas.

J. Robert Lewis Scholarship  ~ Deadline is April
The scholarship is available to graduating MCC students who plan to attend a four-year college or university and demonstrate an academic ability and financial need. Preference will be given to pre-law majors.

Applicant must attend the state convention of The National Federation of the Blind of Iowa, list community activities you are involved in and how you are making the lives of blind people better and explain your views on blindness.

Louisa County 4-H Foundation  ~ Deadline is July
A $250 scholarship for a Louisa county 4-H alumnu will be awarded during their second semester. Applicants should draft their own letter of application not to exceed four pages, plus a letter of recommendation from a former 4-H club leader.

Mercy Auxiliary Scholarship  ~ Deadline is March
Applicants must reside in the service area of Mercy Medical Center of Clinton. Scholarship is to be used for the pursuit of education in the health field. The primary purpose of this scholarship fund is to encourage people from all walks of life and economic backgrounds to enter into a career in the health field. Note: First time applicants may be contacted for a personal interview.

Mohassan Grotto Scholarship  ~ Deadline is August
The scholarship is open to any person in their second or higher year of study toward a career in the medical field. Up to 10 students are eligible for this scholarship with a minimum award of $800. These scholarships are restricted to persons whose legal home address is within eastern Iowa (any county wholly or partly east of hwy 218) or the counties of Henry, Rock Island or Mercer in Illinois and who are either a member or were a member of a Masonic body/Masonic youth group or have a spouse, parent (step/foster), grandparent (step), great grandparent (step), or sibling who is or was a member of a Masonic body.

Muscatine Association of Firefighters, Local #1672 -
Michael R. Kruse Memorial ~ Deadline is March
An award is given to a student who is entering a community college within the state of Iowa and majoring in fire service or EMS. The student must live in Muscatine, Louisa or Cedar counties and maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5. The award is $300 per year, half awarded per semester.

N.K.L. Nursing Scholarship  ~ Deadline is March
Applicants must reside in the service area of Mercy Medical Center of Clinton, be admitted to the a nursing program and scholarships be used for tuition costs of pursuing the nursing degree.

A $1,500 scholarship is available to applicants in the community of Muscatine, Iowa (Muscatine & Louisa Counties) studying health care.

Pilot Club of Muscatine  ~ Deadline is March 13, 2015
The Pilot Club of Muscatine is offering a $500 scholarship in memory of Nancy Bauer and Elsa Bain.

Applicants need to be:

  • Enrolled at Muscatine Community College for the 2014-2015 school year
  • Preference to Liberal Arts majors
  • More information and application forms are available from your school counselor.
  • Finalists will be given a personal interview between the 7th and 17th of April by the members of the Pilot Club.

Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial  ~ 
Deadline is January
Academic year, multi-year and cultural scholarships are available. You must be a citizen of a country in which there is a rotary club and have completed at least two years of university coursework or equivalent professional experience prior to beginning scholarship studies. There are no age restrictions. Spouses or descendants of Rotarians may not apply. Other restrictions apply. Scholarship cannot be used to study in an area of a country where the candidate has previously lived for more than six months and may not be used in conjunction with a study abroad program based in another country.

Rotary Foundation International Ambassadorial  ~ 
Deadline is January
Academic-Year Ambassadorial Scholarships
Provide funding, not to exceed $26,000 (US dollars) for one academic year, specifically to cover round-trip transportation, tuition, room and board, and educational supplies. Main Requirements: Fluency in a language other than your own ideally in the applicable country and applicant may NOT have lived in proposed country of study previously.

Multi-Year Ambassadorial Scholarships
This scholarship is the same as above, although award is a flat grant of $13,000 per year for two years of degree-oriented study.
Main Requirements: Fluency in language other than your own ideally in the applicable country and applicant may NOT have lived in proposed country of study previously.

Cultural Ambassadorial Scholarships
This scholarship funds a 3 or 6 month program of INTENSIVE language study and cultural immersion. It funds of up to $12,000 or $19,000, respectively, to cover round-trip transportation, tuition, room and board, and educational supplies.
Main Requirements: Fluency in a language other than your own IS NOT required, although some study of that language and culture prior to this trip is strongly encouraged.

$550 Nursing Education Scholarship
This scholarship is open to students pursuing a career in nursing. Student residence must be within the Unity Health Care service area which includes: Atalissa, Bennett, Columbus Junction, Conesville, Durant, Fruitland, Grandview, Illinois City, Letts, Moscow, Muscatine, New Boston, Nichols, Stockton, Tipton, Wapello, West Liberty and Wilton.

Unity employees and their dependents residing outside the service area may also apply. Willella Fluellin Scholarship

Scholarship applicants must meet the following guidelines:

  • Must be a graduating senior attending high school or presently enrolled in an institution of higher education.
  • Must have at least a 2.5 cumulative grade point average or equivalent on a 4 point scale.
  • Must submit a typed essay which includes:
    • Information about you
    • Picture of you
    • Your goals (short and long)
    • Why you want to obtain a higher education
      • How this scholarship will be an asset to you and the community
  • Must have (2) letters of recommendation from individuals who are familiar with your character.
  • Must submit a sealed Official Transcript from your high school or college
  • A completed application must be submitted.
  • Applications must be submitted or postmarked on or before June 15, 2013
  • Must be a resident of Scott County and provide proof of residency at the time of application.
  • If you are awarded the scholarship, it will be awarded after the committee receives proof of enrollment from the college or university.
