Scholarships 

Support For Our Students.  Support For Our Future.

Accessible education is the cornerstone of the Scott mission. A scholarship is more than financial aid - it may determine whether a student can attend college. The Scott Foundation awarded more than $126,000 in scholarships in 2008.

Some Scott scholarships are based on academic excellence. Most are based on factors such as financial need, community involvement, leadership, program or area of study, or other requirements.

A scholarship committee composed of Scott faculty and staff, representing multiple areas of the college, screens the applications. For specific scholarships, academic department scholarship committees choose recipients.

American Business Women's Association (ABWA)

Intent: This scholarship was established by the American Business Women’s Association, Three Bridges Chapter and is designed to recognize and assist students with their educational expenses.

Award: 2 - $1,000 Fall/Spring split
Will be awarded $500 for fall to two students with $500 carried over to spring semester for the same students, providing the guidelines continue to be met.

Criteria for Awarding:

• Be full-time in their second year of study working toward a bachelor degree in any field of study at Scott Community College – Belmont campus.
• Have a GPA of 2.5 or above (based on a 4 point system) Grades will be sent to ABWA representative, Barbara Humiston, 2128 E. 38th Street, Davenport, IA 52807 at the end of each semester.
• Students who receive the ABWA Scholarship are required to attend a future ABWA meeting during the Fall award semester.
• Scholarship may be used toward tuition and books only.
• Financial need is NOT to be considered for award.

Administrative and Office Support (AOS)

Intent: This scholarship was established by the Management Support Systems and interested staff members for the purpose of recognizing potential leaders in the field of Management Support.

Award: 2 - $300 scholarships awarded for spring

Criteria for Awarding:

• Have completed 12 credit hours in the Administrative and Office Support Program at Scott Community College.
• Show academic promise.
• Demonstrate financial need.
• Have at least one of the three references from full-time Administrative and Office Support faculty member.

African American

Intent: This scholarship is supported by faculty and staff interested in encouraging African Americans to enroll in Scott Community College.

Award: 1 - $300 fall semester scholarship

Criteria for Awarding:

• Be African American and indicate African American racial/ethnic origin on the SCC application for admissions,
• Show academic promise, and
• Demonstrate unmet financial need.

Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP) - Information Technology Majors

Intent: This scholarship fund is intended to assist students whose income prohibits them from receiving substantial financial assistance, but who may have circumstances that make it hard to fund a college education.

Awards: 1 - $300 Fall award
Awards will be applied to tuition and fees first, any remainder may be used for books.

Criteria for Awarding:

• Be currently enrolled in the Microcomputer Information Technology program with a minimum of 15 credit hours earned,
• Earned a minimum GPA of 3.0
• Be an active AITP member,
• Have unmet financial need, and
• Submit two favorable MIT faculty references.

Allan J. MacDonald Memorial - (first) Education or (second) Library Science

Intent: This scholarship fund was established by Alice Nielsen, Humanities instructor, in memory of Allan J. MacDonald, former college employee who taught elementary school and who directed the SCC library.

Award: 1 - $250 fall award

Criteria for Awarding:

• Students must have maintained a 3.0 grade point average, either at the college level, or if they are recent high school graduates, their high school transcript must reflect a cumulative 3.0
• Nontraditional students as well as those just coming to SCC from high school are eligible to apply
• First preference is given to students who plan to enter the elementary education field and who have declared Education as their program concentration
• Second preference is given to students who indicate in the scholarship application essay that they plan to continue their education as library science majors
• Preference is to be given to male students
• The recipient is expected to meet with the donor once per semester

American Legion of Iowa Foundation

Intent:This scholarship was established for students that have served in the Armed Forces, this scholarship is supported by the American Legion of Iowa Foundation.  Presented by Mr. George Raes, American Legion 2nd District of Iowa, Post #238, DeWitt, IA.

Award:2 - $500 scholarships for spring 2011 and spring 2012

Criteria for Awarding:
Students must meet the following criteria to be eligible for the scholarship:

• Be a veteran of the Armed Forces and have indicated such on the scholarship application
• Enrolled full- or part-time
• Show academic promise

CTE Concurrently Enrolled

Intent: In 2009, this scholarship was created by Janet Coogan, Dean of Applied Technologies. In honor of the academic potential she saw with the incoming students who participated in the concurrently enrolled programs in their high schools, she established this scholarship at Scott Community College. The goal of this scholarship is to reward students for their success in high school concurrently enrolled programs and give them a head start with their post-secondary education.  

Award: 1 - $500 Fall semester award, beginning in 2010

Criteria for Awarding:

• Must be a current high school senior concurrently enrolled in an Applied Technologies course through an area high school.
• Must be entering an Applied Technologies program of study at Scott Community College (certificate, diploma or AAS degree are acceptable).
• Must demonstrate academic promise and volunteer or work experience indicating promise in their chosen career field
• Financial need is NOT a consideration

Auto Collision Repair

Award: 1 - $300 Fall award

Criteria for Awarding:

• Demonstrated academic promise
• Student has an unmet financial need
• Must be enrolled full-time
• Enrolled in the Auto Collision Repair Program
• Student must submit a reference from at least one SCC ACR instructor.

Procedure: Students should apply using the regular SCC scholarship application form and procedures. Car Show

Intent: The first auto show, Cruisin' into the Valley, was held September 1992. Profits from the event were used to establish scholarships for SCC students enrolled in HVAC, Auto Collision Repair, Auto Technology, and Diesel Technology. Coordinators of the event were Lisa Brown and Mike Jund.

Award:8 Fall and Spring awards of $250 to 2 students each in the HVAC, ACR, Auto Tech, or Diesel Tech programs. To be used for tuition and fees. Any other use of scholarship money will be approved by the Foundation Office.

Criteria for Awarding:

• Full-time students who have completed 12 credit hours in the previous semester.
• GPA of 2.0 or better earned at SCC in one of the programs listed above.
• Financial need.
• Two references from instructors in the program in which the student is enrolled.

Procedure: Students should apply using the regular SCC scholarship application form and procedures. Chancellor’s Challenge Award

Intent: This award is to provide assistance and support to a community college student who has struggled academically in the past but is willing to accept the challenge of completing college courses with the goal of achieving a certificate or associates degree.

Award:
$250 for Fall Semester
$250 for Spring Semester

Criteria for Awarding:

• Applicant shall be enrolling as a full-time or part-time student at Scott Community College. The students course load shall not be less than half-time.
• Applicants may be students enrolling in courses in either Arts & Sciences or Applied Technology.
• Applicants shall demonstrate a desire to achieve educational or career goals.
• A preference shall be given to those students who have successfully completed a GED program at a community college.
• A preference shall be given to a student who has unmet financial needs

Chef Aaron McMahon Culinary Arts

Intent:

In 2010, a culinary contest was held between area chefs as a fundraiser for Scott Community College, the event was called the Scott Community College Home Grown Iron Chef Competition.   Two chefs competed in the preliminary rounds for four weeks at the local farmers market.  The chefs had to create a dish for judging using locally grown produce and a mystery protein.   In the end the four weekly winners faced-off in a Final Showdown where  Chef Aaron McMahon prevailed as the 2010 Scott Community College Home Grown Iron Chef Runner-up.  As the runner-up of the 2010 Scott Community College Home Grown Iron Chef Competition, Chef McMahon has begun this scholarship using the prize money he received.  The goal of this scholarship is to support students enrolled in the culinary arts program and to help them enrich our communities with high quality cuisine. 

Award: 

A one-time award, (may continue based on donor support) - $200 scholarships beginning Spring 2011

Criteria for Awarding: 

Students must meet the following criteria to be eligible for this scholarship:

• Must be enrolled in the Culinary Arts program; second year student
• Must have a 3.0 GPA or higher
• Must be working in the Culinary Arts field while attending classes

Procedure:

Chef Salzmann Culinary Arts

Chuck Mooney/William Stradt Bettendorf Noon Rotary

Intent: This scholarship is sponsored by the Bettendorf Noon Rotary to provide assistance for tuition and/or books for students in any program at Scott Community College.

Award: $500 Fall/Spring split
Will be awarded $250 for fall to one student with $250 carried over to spring semester for the same student, providing the guidelines continue to be met

Criteria for Awarding:

• Must be enrolled full-time (12 semester hours or more)
• Must include one written recommendation from a college or high school faculty member and one written recommendation from an individual external to SCC
• Must have demonstrated need
• Students who recieve the Bettendorf Noon Rotary Scholarship are required to attend at least one Bettendorf Noon Rotary meeting during the Fall award semester
• Preference will be given to an individual who graduated either from Bettendorf, Pleasant Valley or Rivermont High School
• Preference will also be given to an individual who demonstrates academic achievement and participation in extra-curricular or community activities

Courtney & Otavio Hegouet

Intent: In November 2008, Otavio Hegouet, an SCC alumnus, and his wife, Courtney, established this scholarship. While attending Scott Community College between 2000 and 2003, Otavio recalled fondly the value he received from his sport scholarship and from working at the college switchboard. However, he remembers those students who were not as fortunate to whom he and his wife would like to honor through the establishment of this scholarship. 

Award:
1 - $500 award Fall
1 - $500 award Spring

Criteria for Awarding:

• Have an EICC or high school GPA of 3.0 or higher of GED score of 2400 or higher
• Be a single parent
• Be enrolled full-time. May be awarded to a part-time student at the discretion of the Scholarship Committee.
• Work outside the home at least 20 hours per week
• Student having a break of more than one year between high school and entering SCC must provide a high school transcript
• May be enrolled in any program at Scott Community College

Dean Parsons Environmental Club

Intent: This scholarship was established by SCC Environmental Club students in honor of the late Dean Parsons, a student, friend, and club member. The purpose is to assist students who have expressed an interest in environmental studies. (The SCC Environmental Club has promoted and supervised safe environmental processes; recycling of materials; tree, flower, and shrub plantings; Mississippi River cleanup; and prairie grass plantings.)

Award: 2 - $250 awards each fall

Criteria for Awarding:

• Must be pursuing a career in environmental education, biology, or ECAT (Environmental Compliance and Technology)
• Must be a full-time student
• Must have earned at least 24 semester hours of college credit with successful completion of 4 hour environmental science course

Procedure: Students should apply using the regular SCC scholarship application form and procedures. Diesel Technology (Formerly VICA)

Intent: This scholarship was established by the VICA Club of Scott Community College and faculty members.

Award: 1 - $500 fall award

Criteria for Awarding:

• Full-time students enrolled in Diesel Technology.
• Cumulative GPA of 2.0 or better earned at SCC in Diesel.
• Two references from instructors in the program.
• Success in the program and potential success in the field.

The Dorothy M. Miller Memorial

Intent: This scholarship fund was established to honor the memory of Dorothy M. Miller by her husband and family. It is intended to encourage young people by challenging them to commit to the work and study involved with seeking a post secondary degree or certification and becoming a life-long learner.

Award: $1,000 Fall split F/S/F/S
To be awarded as $250 per semester for four semesters

Criteria for Awarding:

• Have graduated from an area high school in the top 60% of their class, or have attained a GED Composite Test Score through EICC of 2500 or higher,
• Be enrolled in 12 credit hours,
• Show academic promise.

Dr. Duane “Andy” Anderson Memorial - for Education  

Intent: This scholarship pays tribute to former University of Iowa professor and community college advocate Dr. Duane A. Anderson

Award: 1 - $250 fall award

Criteria for Awarding:

• Show academic promise and/or commitment to the field of education, and
• Demonstrate unmet financial need
• Preference will be given to incoming freshman of non-traditional age.

Dr. L.J. Twyner Memorial

Intent: This scholarship fund was established to honor the memory of Dr. L.J. Twyner by his daughter, Dr. Kathleen Twyner-Coley and family. Dr. L.J. Twyner was a dentist in Davenport, Iowa for more than 40 years and an active member of his community. He was a member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, or NAACP, from which he received an award for outstanding community service in 1977. He was honored in 1989 by United Neighbors Inc. for his many years of service to the community as a member of the Davenport School Board. In November 1990, he received an award and special thanks from the Davenport Education Association for his commitment to Davenport public schools. He served on the Iowa Civil Rights Commission in the mid-1970s and also received honorary recognition from both the League of Latin American Citizens, or LULAC, and the Davenport Chamber of Commerce. The Dr. L.J. Twyner Memorial Scholarship will honor his life and seek to help support others who want to pursue a higher education career in dentistry.

Award: $500
First award will be: $500 for Fall 2010

Criteria for Awarding:

• Must be enrolled full-time in the Dental Assisting Program, Pre-Dental Hygienist Program or must have declared a Pre-Dentistry major.
• Must have a 2.75 GPA or higher; if an incoming student, a 2.75 high school GPA is required.
• Must be active in the community through volunteer projects, athletics or academic clubs.
• Must demonstrate unmet financial need.
• Must indicate African-American origin on their Scott Community College admissions application.

Ellis Vetter Memorial Endowment

Award: 1 - $250 Fall award

Criteria for Awarding:

• Demonstrated academic promise
• Show financial need
• Full or part-time student
• Preference given to children of farm families, rural residents and residents from Calamus, Wheatland, or Lost Nation.

The Electroneurological Diagonstic Club - In Memory of Tracy Rutherford

Intent: This scholarship is sponsored by the END Club and the parents of Tracy Rutherford who was an Electroneurodiagnostic student before her tragic death.

Award: 1 - $250 Spring award

Criteria for Awarding:

• Be of nontraditional age and currently enrolled in the Electroneurodiagnostic program,
• Completed the first semester,
• Show academic promise, and
• Demonstrate financial need.

English as a Second Language

Intent: This scholarship fund was established by the faculty, staff and administration of SCC. It is intended to recognize and reward ESL students who show leadership, positive attitude, dependability, and demonstrate a likelihood of success.

Award:
1 - $250 Fall scholarship
1 - $250 Spring scholarship
(Scholarship money will be used for tuition and fees first. Any remaining funds can be used for books.)

Criteria for Awarding:

• Be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours of ESL,
• Demonstrate academic promise,
• Show financial need, and
• Be a community-based resident of Iowa.
• The references submitted with the application must be from ESL faculty.
• Preference will be given to students who are involved in some activity outside the ESL classroom that would promote the use of English such as campus clubs, community organizations, and employment.

Event Management Unlimited

Intent: In 2011, Patrick Frese, owner of Event Management Unlimited and adjunct instructor at SCC established a scholarship in support of Scott Community College Event Management student(s).   Mr. Frese has worked in event planning for more than 20 years and he’s hopeful this scholarship will help others with likeminded goals in event management.

Award:
First award will be:  Spring 2013 for 1- $1000 or 2-$500 awards for tuition, fees, tools and/or books.

Criteria for Awarding:

• Must be enrolled in the Event Management Certificate program
• Must have a GPA of2.5 or greater

Intent: This scholarship was established by the faculty and staff of the Scott Community College through their contributions to the SCC Foundation.  The college is committed to academic excellence and offers stimulating and challenging opportunities for those wishing to optimize their educational experience.  This prestigious award is intended to recognize the academic achievements of current SCC students participating in the Honors program.

Award:

• Be currently enrolled full or part time at SCC
• Achieve and maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA

Fejervary Trust 

Intent:The intent of this scholarship is to assist students who are majoring in agricultural related professions.  These professions can include but are not limited to diesel mechanics to perform work on farm equipment, horse science, or farm management.  Through the Fejervary Trust, two students who meet the criteria will receive a scholarship totaling $3,000 to split between the fall and spring semesters ($1,500 per semester).  Each student will receive the spring portion if they continue to meet the set criteria.

Award: Two - $3000 Fall/Spring split awards to deserving students for tuition and books.

Criteria for Awarding:
Students must meet the following criteria to be eligible for this scholarship:

• Recipient must be enrolled full-time
• Recipient must indicate on their scholarship application career goals that support the Agriculture Industry  
• Recipient must show academic promise in their course work that supports their Agriculture career goals

Intent: This scholarship was established by Cindy Bottrell, associate dean of arts and sciences, and associate director of the Advanced Technology Environmental Education Center, to assist first-generation college students (neither parent has earned a four-year college degree) enrolled in arts and sciences at Scott Community College.

Award: $300 Fall & $300 Spring

• Must be enrolled in Arts and Sciences
• Must be a first-generation college student (neither parent has earned a four-year college degree)
• Must have completed one semester at Scott Community College and have earned a 2.5 grade point average
• Must not be eligible for Pell award (federal financial aid)

Frank & Kara Mitvalsky Pre-Law

Intent: Frank Mitvalsky, an attorney and a Scott Community College Foundation Board Member, and his wife Kara established this scholarship in 2008. This scholarship is to honor Frank’s passion for law and is intended to assist students working toward a Pre-Law A.A. degree.

Award: 1 - $500 award each fall. First award will be fall 2009.

Criteria for Awarding:

• Student must have a Pre-Law major
• Must have complete one of the following classes: American National Government, U.S. History through 1877, or Sociology
• Must have and maintain a 3.0 GPA

Intent: This scholarship was established by the family, friends and colleagues of Gloria McJunkins who served as the minority outreach specialist at Scott Community College.

Gregory E. Huffman Memorial Award For Students enrolled in the HVAC Curriculum at Scott Community College

Intent: This scholarship is established in the loving memory of a well known and well liked former SCC student, Greg Huffman, whose untimely death in ATV accident cut short his career in HVAC at Holmes Heating and Air Conditioning as well as his friendships with other students and his teachers. Greg will be remembered for his love of fast cars, loud music and for football. He graduated from North Scott High School and Scott Community College. The award is to assist others in the HVAC program that share his interests and are the same sort of ‘people person’ that everyone remembers that Greg was. It may be used for tuition, books, tools or other class related expenses.

Award: One recipient to receive $125 for fall semester and $125 for spring semester for an annual total of $250. The first award will be in the Fall of 2005.

Criteria for Awarding:

• A student shall have completed one half of the degree requirements and be actively seeking their degree in HVAC from Scott Community College.
• A positive recommendation from an HVAC instructor must accompany the scholarship application.
• A student shall be academically in good standing at the time they apply.
• A preference will be given to students who have unmet financial needs, and may be finding it difficult to complete their classes in a timely fashion.

Hawkeye Paving Corporation - Diesel Technology

Intent: In 2009, this scholarship was established by Glen and Teresa Perkins of the Hawkeye Paving Corporation to assist students who are studying in the Diesel Technology program at Scott Community College

Intent: This scholarship fund was established by SCC faculty and Advanced Technology Environmental and Energy Center staff. It is intended to provide recognition and financial assistance to students committed to the career field of Health, Safety and Environmental Technology (HSET).

1 - $500 Spring award
($500 scholarships will be awarded as long as fund balance is adequate to support that amount. If balance falls below $1,000, the scholarship will be reduced to $300.)

Intent:
In 2010, this scholarship was created by the Gangopadhyay family to give HOPE to a deserving student.  It is the intent of this scholarship to assist a Scott Community College student with a declared major in Pre-Engineering, Biology, Chemistry, or Physics.

Hospitality Management

Intent:
In 2011, Diane Stanley was recognized by the Scott Community College Foundation as the 2011 Distinguished Staff Member.  With this recognition Diane was given $250 to use anywhere within the college.  Diane chose to direct her $250 to create a Hospitality Management Scholarship.   To reach the required $500 minimum scholarship award, two of the Hospitality Management Advisory Committee members, Dan Hance & Pat Frese contributed the remaining funds needed..

Information Services

Intent: This scholarship is supported by the staff of Information Services. It was created to provide tuition assistance to students who are not likely to receive other financial aid or scholarships. An average student with an average income and a commitment to their program would be just as desirable as any other student.

Award:
1 - $350 Fall semester
1 - $350 Spring semester

Criteria for Awarding:

• Have completed half (34 credit hours) of the Microcomputer Information Technology program with a minimum GPA of 2.0. Hours earned do not have to be from SCC.
• Full- and part-time students can be considered.
• Financial need is not a criterion.
• Students should not be judged on who has a better GPA, but instead, on their commitment to the program and likelihood of becoming successful on the job. Discriminating factors should therefore be their goal essay and their references.

Intent: This scholarship was established by instructors Wynne Schafer and Kimberly Darling and by area businesses to assist students in the SCC Interior Design program.

Intent: This scholarship fund is intended to assist second-year radiologic technology students with the costs of their education.

James and Jeralee Mannhardt

Intent:  This scholarship was created on November 20, 2009 by James and Jeralee Mannhardt through an endowment established with the Community Foundation of the Great River Bend.

Award:  1 - $500 Fall Award

Criteria: 

• Eligible students will be selected from those attending Scott Community College
• Financial need will be a major criterion for the scholarship.  50% of the decision on choice of a recipient will be determined by need.  The applicants will be evaluated on need, based upon federal student aid criteria and verified by a financial aid form (FAFSA) or a family financial statement (FFS), which are available from the high school offices.
• 25% of the decision on choice of a recipient will be determined by merit evaluated by school activities, community and personal activities, and work experience.
• 25% of the decision on choice of a recipient will be determined by the recommendation of a counselor or teacher that the student would benefit by having scholarship support.
• The applicants shall have at least a 2.0 grade point average on a 4.0 grade point average scale (or an equivalent average).
• The student must be a full-time student enrolled for the purpose of earning credits for an Associate’s degree or program certificate.

Jim Hester Memorial

Intent: This scholarship is supported by individuals interested in encouraging African American students to achieve a certificate or degree at Scott Community College.  Jim Hester was a tireless civil rights advocate and an active member of the community serving on the Davenport School Board from 1994-2002.

Award: $500 for Fall 2010 (pending donor support)

Criteria for Awarding:

• Be African American and indicate African American racial/ethnic origin on the SCC application for admissions,
• Must have a 2.5 or higher GPA from Scott Community College or their high school,
• Must list on scholarship application activities within the community through volunteer projects, athletics, or academic clubs in which they do or have participate(d)
• Must demonstrate unmet financial need.

Intent: Established by John and Mary Blong this is a donor designated fund in the Community Foundation of the Great River Bend.

annually through the three college Foundations.

Criteria for Awarding:

• Iowa resident.
• Earned a G.E.D. through .

Judy Nelson Memorial

Intent: This scholarship was created in April 1995 by Molly Jungk, 1995 Outstanding Staff Member, through the use of the award stipend. Upon Judy Nelson's death, a memorial fund was established by Judy's family, friends, and colleagues. Judy was a dedicated staff member at Scott Community College and always performed her job with the student foremost in mind. She was a caring, nurturing, and encouraging person who went out of her way to be helpful. The award recipient should be the person who most reflects Judy's memory.

Award: 2 - $2,000 Fall/Spring split
Will be awarded $1000 for fall to two students with $1000 carried over to spring semester for the same students, providing the guidelines continue to be met.

Criteria for Awarding:

• Must be a second-year Nursing, Pre-Nursing students, Allied Health or Pre-Allied Health student.
• Must show academic promise.
• Must demonstrate unmet financial need.
• Must show volunteerism and/or involvement in school, community, or other organizations.

Kahl Educational Center
 
Intent: Established by staff at the Kahl Educational Center, this scholarship is to assist non-traditional students, particularly those who have been recently displaced by their employer; who are returning from the military; or who have earned their GED from the Career Assistance Center.

Award: $150 Fall and Spring

Criteria for Awarding:

• Be a non-traditional student, one who has earned their GED from the or one who graduated from high school more than two years prior to starting coursework for a post secondary degree or certification.
• Be a student who is registering for at least six credit hours per semester at Scott Community College.
• Be a student in good standing at Scott Community College at the time they draw on the award.
• Be a student who shows academic promise.

Preference: A student who was displaced by a reduction in force at their previous employer or a student who is starting their post secondary education after returning from active military service.

Lois Suiter O’Malley Interior Design

Intent: In 2009, this scholarship was created by members of the Suiter family as a birthday gift to Lois Suiter O’Malley. Lois is a semi-retired professional interior decorator and former teacher. She has been a long-time supporter of the interior design instructors and of the interior design program at Scott Community College. The goal of this scholarship is to support students enrolled in the interior design program to help them achieve their dreams.

Award: $500
First award will be: 1 - $500 Spring semester, beginning in 2010

Criteria for Awarding:

• Must be enrolled in the interior design program.
• Must have a 2.5 GPA or higher; if an incoming student, a 2.5 high school GPA is required.
• Must demonstrate unmet financial need.

Lujack’s Auto Technology  

Intent: This scholarship fund was established by Lujack’s in 2010 in support of the students in the Auto Technology program at Scott Community College.  Lujack’s was established in 1954 and has expanded over the years to 14 franchises on a 50-acre campus.  With over 300 employees it is the largest dealer in the state of Iowa.  The management team at Lujack’s realizes the importance of hiring good, educated employees for their service departments and decided to start the Lujack’s Auto Technology Scholarship to assist students who may need some financial assistance.

Award: 1 - $1,500 Fall/Spring split (beginning Spring 2011)
Will be awarded $750 for spring to one student with $750 carried over to fall semester for the same student, providing the guidelines continue to be met.

Criteria for Awarding:
Students must meet the following criteria to be eligible for the scholarship:

• Demonstrated academic promise
• Student has an unmet financial need 
• Must be enrolled full-time 
• Enrolled in the Auto Technology Program 
• Student must submit a reference from at least one SCC Auto Tech instructor.

Margaret Brodersen Memorial Honor

Intent: This scholarship was established by the family, friends, and colleagues of Margaret Brodersen who served as librarian at Scott Community College. The award will honor a graduating senior whose quest for knowledge best emulates Margaret Brodersen’s unquenchable curiosity for education.

Award: One fall scholarship amounting to the interest earned from the Margaret Brodersen Memorial Endowment. $1,000 for 2006-07 ($500 for Fall 2006; $500 for Spring 2007)

Criteria for Awarding:

• Must be current high school graduate from the year which the award is being given.
• Must be enrolling full-time
• Must demonstrate academic success as evidence in a high school transcript or through other high school academic honors or academic recognition.
• Financial need is not a criterion for awarding.

Intent: This scholarship was established by RuthAnn Gallagher, in honor of her parents, to provide assistance to any Scott Community College student with need.

Intent: This scholarship was established by Scott Community College faculty member Stephanie Whitmer in the recognition of her grandmother Mary L. Burbridge. The scholarship is designed to assist liberal arts students with their educational expenses.

• Be majoring in an Arts and Sciences program at SCC
• Be a nontraditional student
• Come from a farm family
• Demonstrate unmet financial need

Melissa Davis Memorial - Transportation Technologies

Intent: This scholarship was established in recognition of former student Melissa Davis, who died in 1995. The scholarship is funded by SCC faculty and staff. The scholarship award is to be applied to tool purchases first, followed by tuition needs or books.

Award: 1 - $250 fall award

Criteria for Awarding:

• Intend to enter one of the Transportation Technologies programs: Automotive Technology; Auto Collision Repair; Diesel Technology; or Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC)
• Be enrolled full- or part-time
• Show academic promise and/or commitment to their chosen field and career
• Demonstrate unmet financial need
• Preference will be given to women, then to a freshman of non-traditional age.

National Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) Davenport Chapter 279

Intent: This scholarship is supported by the members of Davenport Chapter 279 of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees.

Award: 1 - $500 scholarship awarded for the fall semester

• Show academic promise,
• Demonstrate financial need.
• Preference will be given to students who are descendants of current or retired federal employees. Student should check the appropriate line on the scholarship application form.

Intent: This scholarship was established by Scott Caulpetzer to encourage Native Americans to pursue a college education at Scott Community College.

• Be Native American or have at least one parent or grandparent who is/was Native American, registered with a tribe, and provide paper work showing tribal registration,
• Enroll in at least 6 credit hours for the semester the award is to be given,
• Show academic promise, and

Newton Pre-Engineering

Intent:
In 2010, this scholarship was created by Jerry & Jeannie Newton.  At the time the scholarship was started, Jerry Newton served on the Scott Community College Foundation board.  It is the intent of this scholarship to assist a Scott Community College student with a declared Pre-engineering major.  

Award:  
A one-time award, (may continue based on donor support) - $500 scholarships beginning Fall 2011

Nicholas Germain Memorial Welding

Intent: Nick was a passionate and creative, self-guided individual whose competitive nature drove him to excel in everything he took interest in. Early in his High School education Nick chose welding as his career path. He proved to be an exceptional student and truly enjoyed learning as much as he could about the welding field. Shortly after graduating from West High School, Nick found employment at Seaberg Industries in Rock Island, IL. Even as a full time employee, Nick continued his welding education through Scott Community College. This scholarship will be awarded to like-minded students, who display genuine determination and ability in the welding field.

Award:
Two - $500 Fall awards to deserving students for tuition and books.
First endowment award to be made in Fall 2012

Criteria for Awarding: Students must meet the following criteria to be eligible for this scholarship:

• Incoming High School student who has completed or who is enrolled in the Davenport Schools District Vocational Welding course
• Must have a 2.00 GPA or higher
• Must declare a Welding (for credit) major
• Must poses an ability to learn hands-on and have an interest in vocational training

North Scott Rotary Applied Technology (Preference for NonTraditional Students)

Intent: This scholarship is sponsored by the North Scott Rotary to provide assistance for tuition and/or books for students enrolled in any applied technology program at Scott Community College. A nontraditional student is an individual who has been out of high school for several years and is just returning to college.

Award: 2 - $1,000 awards annually
Will be awarded $500 for Fall to two students with $500 carried over to Spring semester for the same students, providing the guidelines continue to be met. If either of the students are not attending Scott Community College or eligible in the Spring semester, the $500 will be awarded to another eligible student.

Criteria for Awarding:

• Must be enrolled full-time (12 semester hours or more)
• Must include one written recommendation from a college faculty member and one written recommendation from an individual external to SCC
• Must have demonstrated need
• Students who receive the North Scott Rotary Scholarship are required to attend at least one North Scott Rotary meeting during the award semester
• Preference will be given to a nontraditional student who has been out of high school for several years and is returning to college to learn a new career or to upgrade his/her skills
• Preference will be given to an individual who graduated either from North Scott High School or Davenport North High School
• Preference will be given to a student attending Fall & Spring semester

• Be formally accepted into the first- or second-year program (first-year students must be registered for NURS120: Nursing Fundamentals, second-year students may be registered for any second-year class)
• Demonstrate academic promise (minimum GPA for the program is 2.0)
• Demonstrate a commitment to their professional goals and a likelihood of attainment of their goals through the written portion of the scholarship application.

Pacia Sauer Memorial
 
Intent: This scholarship was created by the family, friends, and colleagues of Pacia Ann Sauer as a tribute to her. Pacia was board secretary and assistant to the chancellor of the where she was employed for 25 years. She was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church, the church women's group, the Davenport Chamber of Commerce - Women's Division, and former member of the Bettendorf Symphony. She had been active in the Bettendorf Community Theater, and her hobbies included writing poetry, camping and music. The intent of the scholarship is to reward and assist mature students that have returned to formal education in order to improve their lives.

Award: 1 Award of $1,000 Fall/Spring Split
(Based on endowment earnings)

• Be at least 28 years of age
• Have earned 6 or more credit hours at
• Have a 2.25 GPA or better
• Show commitment to continuing their education

• Recipient must be a member of the Beta Zeta Epsilon Chapter of PTK in good standing.
• Recipient must have at least 10 service hours in PTK or in a not-for-profit agency. If it is from a not-for-profit agency, a letter of support is needed from that agency certifying the recipients service.
• Recipients may be PTK Officers.

Intent: This scholarship is supported by the staff and administration of the President’s Office and a staff member of Media Production to honor SCC President L.E. Stone, Ph.D.

Award: 1 - $500 scholarship each fall and spring semester

Criteria for Awarding:

• Have completed one semester and enrolled in 10 credit hours or more,
• Be named to the President’s List with a 4.0 GPA,
• Not receiving a Pell Grant.
• Preference will be given to a student who has been on the most consecutive President’s Lists. For example, if two people meet the above criteria, but one has been on the President’s List twice and the other on the list three times, the student who was named to the President’s List three times would receive preference.

QC Chapter of Occupational Health Nurses

Intent:
This scholarship was established by the Quad City Chapter of Occupational Health Nurses.  It is intended to assist a non-traditional Nursing student with tuition, books, or supplies.  This scholarship is awarded in memory of Scott Community College nursing student Abby Vermeire.

One time commitment of to be awarded as 7 - $500 scholarships beginning Spring 2011

Randy James HVAC

Intent: In 2011, Scott Community College HVAC graduate, Randy James established a scholarship in support of Scott Community College HVAC students.  As a prior scholarship recipient himself, Randy understood the value of paying it forward.  His goal for the scholarship is to help others with similar ambitions achieve their dreams.

First award will be:  Fall 2012 for 2-$500 awards for tuition, fees, tools and/or books

Intent: In 2007, this scholarship was created by Ray & Connie Allen, husband and wife both accountants in the Quad Cities. In honor of their profession, they have established a scholarship for Scott Community College students working toward a Business Administration degree with a concentration in Accounting.

Rich & Carol Quinn Honors Program

Intent: This scholarship is sponsored by Rich Quinn in memory of his wife, Carol. This scholarship provides funding for tuition and books for Scott Community College students who are Honors Program participants. The Honors Program provides students excellent opportunities to network, become more involved in the community, and overall become well-rounded student leaders sought by both academia and the world of work.

Criteria for Awarding:

• Must have completed one successful semester of study at SCC
• Be accepted into the SCC Honors Program (have a grade average of 3.5 or above and have provided two faculty recommendations)
• To be eligible for the second installment of the scholarship, students must have successfully completed their first honors semester and have a minimum of 3.2 grade average
• Full- or part-time students are eligible

Intent: This scholarship was established by former Scott Community College clinical coordinator and instructor Lisa Rogers and her husband Dr. John Rogers, M.D. This scholarship is to assist students in the Scott Community College Radiology Technology program.

• Enrolled full-time and formally accepted in to the Radiology Technology program at Scott Community College Have definite need
• Have successfully completed one semester in the Radiology Technology program Earned 3.0 GPA or higher

Sam Stone Memorial - English and Education

Intent: This scholarship was created and is being maintained by the colleagues of Sam Stone. Prior to his death in 1994, Mr. Stone was a dedicated English faculty member who retired in 1993 after 13 years of serving students at Scott Community College.

Award: 1 - $300 fall award

Criteria for Awarding:

• Have 24 credit hours earned at SCC,
• With a 3.5 GPA or better,
• Majoring in English or Education, and
• Provide two English and/or Education faculty references.
• Financial need is NOT a criterion for awarding.

Intent: This scholarship is supported by the science faculty of Scott Community College to encourage and recognize academically promising students who plan to pursue a bachelor of science degree.

Award: 1 fall award of $250
The award will be used for tuition and fees only. If tuition and fees are less than the award amount, students may use the remainder to purchase books at the SCC Bookstore.

Criteria for Awarding:

• Be majoring in Physical and/or Biological Sciences (specifically students majoring in Biology 15711, Chemistry 15721, or Physics 15731).
• Have completed 24 credit hours.
• Have a GPA of 3.5.
• Be full- or part-time.
• Submit two of the three references from SCC science faculty.
• Financial need is NOT a consideration for receiving this scholarship.

Scott & Ellen Van Vooren Nursing  

Intent: This scholarship was established in November 2009 by Scott & Ellen Van Vooren with the intent to assist a Scott Community College nursing student. At the time the scholarship was started Scott Van Vooren had served on the Scott Community College Foundation board for over 20 years. From 2008-2010, he was the Scott Community College Foundation Board President. Through this continued gift the Van Vooren’s will continue to support the college and to provide scholarship support for a student in need well beyond his term limits on the Scott Community College Foundation.

Award: $500
First award will be: $500 for Spring 2010 for tuition, books and supplies

• Formally excepted in to the Nursing program at Scott Community College.

Intent: This scholarship has been designed to assist students in the SCC Radiology Technology program. It was established by adjunct instructor Lisa Rogers, a 1990 graduate of SCC, and her husband Dr. John Rogers.

• Be enrolled full-time in Radiology Technology
• Have a definite financial need
• Have successfully completed one year in the Radiology Technology program and have earned a 3.0 or higher grade point average

Stewart Health Professional

Intent: This scholarship was created in 2010 by Scott Community College Foundation Board member Mary Stewart and her husband Dr. James Stewart.  The intent of this scholarship is to assist a Scott Community College student pursuing a career in Health Care with tuition, fees, and/or books.

Award: $500 Fall semester 

Criteria for Awarding:

• Preference given to a student declaring an Allied Health major
• Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
• Show academic promise
• Show financial need

Intent: This scholarship is funded by the staff and administration of the Student Development areas. It’s purpose is to recognize good academic performance and provide tuition assistance for students who are not eligible for Pell Grants.

• Minimum GPA of 2.0.
• Be enrolling for at least 6 credit hours.
• Not receiving a Pell Grant.

TRIO Support

Intent: This scholarship fund was established by TRIO staff to further assist students who are participating in the TRIO program. The purpose of the TRIO program is to improve grade point averages, retention rates, and transfer rates of students who are first generation college students, low income or have a physical or learning disability. Scholarships are intended to assist students who are actively participating and academically progressing, but are facing challenges with their return to college.

Award: Fall award for $250

Criteria for Awarding:

• Complete one semester as TRIO students at SCC before applying,
• Be actively participating in the TRIO program and confirmed through TRIO staff references,
• Submit two references, including at least one reference from TRIO program staff,
• Show academic promise, and
• Be addressing challenges or obstacles in attending or returning to college as demonstrated through the essay portion in the scholarship application form.

Procedure: Students should apply using the regular SCC scholarship application form and procedures. Scholarship applications may be acquired from Financial Aid, Foundation Office or on-line at www.eicc.edu/scc foundation. Applications must be received by deadline dates listed on the application form. The college scholarship committee will review applications and notify the recipient by letter.

Vernice “Kay” Kranzler Cancer Information Management Memorial

Intent: This scholarship was established in the memory of Vernice “Kay” Kranzler who passed away on December 5, 2007 after a lengthy and challenging battle with cancer. Kay never was able to get a college degree for herself, but she greatly admired her children for their educational accomplishments. She saw the financial struggles her daughter endured as a non-traditional physician assistant and it is only fitting that her legacy live on by helping deserving Scott Community College students in the Cancer Information Management program.

Award: First award will be made for the Spring 2009 semester. Three scholarships of $500 will be awarded for Spring 2009. One scholarship of $500 will be made each semester thereafter.

Criteria for Awarding:

• Be enrolled in the Cancer Information Management program at Scott Community College.
• Show academic promise and the ability to succeed in their career field.
• Demonstrate unmet financial need
• Be a non-traditional student (graduated high school 5 years prior to application date)
• Be enrolled full- or part-time.

Wentland Health Career

Intent: In 2011, this scholarship was created by Jason & Megan Wentland.  Jason served on the Scott Community College Foundation Board and Megan took classes at Scott and graduated from St Ambrose with a degree in Physical Therapy.  It is the intent of this scholarship to assist a Scott Community College student with a declared major in any of the health related fields. 

Award: First award will be: $500 for Spring 2012 for tuition, fees, tools and/or books

Criteria for Awarding:

• Preference given to a student with a declared major in any of the Allied or Pre-Allied Health related fields:
  • Dental Hygiene
  • Nursing
  • Physical Therapy
  • Pre-Chiropractic
  • Cancer Information Management
  • Dental Assisting
  • Emergency Medical Services
  • Electroneurodiagnostic
  • Health Information Technology
  • Radiology Technology
  • Surgical Technology
  • Massage Therapy
• Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
• Show academic promise.
