•  In-Kind Gifts
(personal property such as art, vehicles, or furnishings)
We welcome donations and services that, in turn, will benefit the school. The donor, through an appraisal, record of purchase, or billing statement determines the gift value. Gifts should follow the gift acceptance policy and guidelines.

Unrestricted Contributions: Contributions can be made to the Scott Community College Foundation and allocated by the Foundation to the area of greatest need at the college, including:

  • Providing scholarships and other financial assistance for hardworking, talented students.
  • Making sure that students have the best classrooms, labs, studios, study spaces, libraries and recreation facilities.
  • Funding innovative educational, service, and research programs that prepare students to think critically and solve problems creatively.
  • Helping faculty to be the best educators they can be, in the classrooms and by conducting important research that keeps them at the forefront of inquiry and imagination.
  • Helping a student facing an unexpected financial emergency that would interrupt or end his or her pursuit of a college education. With input from faculty, staff, and administration, the Foundation uses this fund to respond to unpredictable financial needs and keep our students moving forward in their education.

Restricted Contributions: Contributions can be made to a specific area of the college, such as a department, named, or endowed scholarship fund.

Named Gifts: Contributions can be made to establish a named scholarship [ link: to Create A Scholarship page]  or to memorialize or honor a loved one.

Additional Opportunities: Major contributions also bring a unique opportunity for recognition. When a donor makes a gift within a stipulated gift range, both new and selected existing facilities are available for naming.

•  A Planned Gift such as:

Securities
Stocks, bonds and mutual funds are excellent ways to give, particularly if they have appreciated in value. Stock given to the SCC Foundation, held by the donor for more than 12 months, can be sold on the donor's behalf, with no capital gains tax. The full amount can be deducted as if the gift had been cash.

Bequests
A provision is made in a donor's will, through which the SCC Foundation receives cash and/or other assets at the time of the donor's death. Distributions can be made either as a specific dollar amount or as a percentage of the estate.

Life Insurance
Ownership of an existing policy transferred to the college is designated as the beneficiary and/or owner of a policy. Contact your financial advisor for advice on the transfer of your gift.

Matching Gifts
Many employers will match charitable donations made by their employees throughout the year.

Often employers extend these matching programs to include gifts made through workplace giving campaigns. It is important for you to inquire about your employer's matching criteria so that you can maximize the impact of your donation.

For example, some employers double the impact of a donation by matching each dollar. That means if you can only afford to give $500, the charity actually receives $1,000. Once you understand your employer's matching plan, you can make the most of your workplace giving campaign and maximize the level of funding your favorite charities receive.

To find out if your company participates in such a program, ask your HR department or see our list below:

After Your Gift: Receipts and Acknowledgments

The Scott Community College Foundation deposits all checks promptly and will send an acknowledgement for your gift and a receipt for your tax records for each program you support. Gifts of securities are followed by a formal acknowledgement and receipt.

The IRS requires a receipt for all charitable contributions of $250 or more. Typically, acknowledgements and receipts are sent within five days of when the Foundation receives the gift, but at peak gift processing times, such as the end of the year, it often takes longer to record such gifts and send acknowledgments.

All donors are recognized for their gifts to the college in the Scott Community College Foundation annual report. Donors are also honored for their generosity at annual events.
