Chancellor’s Award for Leadership
Brian Ritter – Applied Technology Environmental Education Center
Brian Ritter is a natural leader who provides leadership to not only students of all ages and EICCD faculty and staff, but to the general public as well through his many volunteer efforts. He has literally become the front door to EICCD. For the vast majority of these students and for many of the teachers, this is their first interaction with EICCD. He ensures that their impression of the college and of our commitment to education and the community is a positive experience.
Ritter has maintained and clarified his and EICCD’s vision of delivering quality environmental educational experiences to the community and has been there to “gitt ‘er done” every step of the way. He does not lead by e-mail. He participates and is the go-to guy for the education efforts at Nahant Marsh and helps assiduously on natural resources improvements.
Chancellor’s Award for Quality Service
Beth Wood – Clinton Community College
Beth Wood has been instrumental in developing numerous online mathematics courses and has been recognized by the Iowa Community College Online Consortium (ICCOC) for her excellence as an online instructor. She is truly a credit to her profession and valuable asset to our colleges.
Wood makes a difference when it comes to engaging and supporting her students. Beth has organized study groups and has left no stone unturned when it comes to student needs. She is constantly adapting and improving her online courses to meet the needs of her students incorporating today’s technologies.
She has been a leader in the development of online courses, mentoring of new online instructors, and creation of course shells. She is always willing to assist the faculty in learning how to put a course together. She is respected by students and faculty alike.
Chancellor’s Award for Community Service
Katie Watson – Muscatine Community College
Katie Watson has worked for EICCD for more than 15 years in the role of recruiter at Muscatine Community College (MCC). Her responsibilities include not only promoting MCC but all of the districts programs and classes. One of her many strengths has been her vision to promote MCC and her community connections.
Without Watson as a guide, Muscatine High School would have a daunting task in promoting all that MCC has to offer and the opportunities that exist between MHS and MCC. Her assistance makes it seem effortless and greatly eases the transition for our students. She believes passionately in informing prospective and current students about opportunities, and uses her enthusiasm to draw them in through conversations
She has her MCC/EICCD hat on at every event she attends. She is literally our ‘voice’ wherever she is. She is a valuable asset and has tirelessly given of her time and talent.
Chancellor’s Award for Process Improvement
Pat Cawiezell – Scott Community College
Pat Cawiezell is not called the “Queen of Green” for nothing. She is the recycling goddess for Scott Community College. No matter what project she is working on, she is always wearing her green hat and interjecting her thoughts on how to make a project earth friendly.
Cawiezell has demonstrated an unusual talent for taking on projects that make lasting effects in daily operations and are responsive to the needs of faculty staff and students.
She is a process improvement-driven person. She looks at a process, finds ways to improve it and sees the end result before the end. However, one of her greatest qualities is communicating that improved process through documentation, coaching and evaluation of the process to see that the process is doing what it is designed to accomplish.
