Julie Plummer -
Chancellor’s Award Winner for Leadership
Assistant Director Iowa Waste Exchange and
Environmental Compliance Manager District Office
Julie Plummer began working for EICC in 2000 as the Iowa Waste Exchange (IWE) representative. The IWE is a grant funded program to help businesses pursue waste management alternatives that result in both economic and environmental benefits. Affectionately referred to as the “Waste Queen”, Julie is recognized for her innovative matchmaking skills as she unites the byproducts and wastes of business with companies that can recycle or reuse the materials.
At a state level, Julie has been appointed to serve on the statewide committee to review projects submitted to the DNR’s Solid Waste Alternative Program (SWAP) and is a presenter for DNR and IWE programs at various conferences throughout the state. Locally, she was actively involved with the committee working on LEED certification for the construction of the new Davenport Police Station and was instrumental in obtaining funding from the Waste Commission of Scott County to offer waste management assistance to area businesses. Her efforts with one particular company resulted in their being the recipient of the 2006 Recycled Product Manufacturing Award by the Iowa Recycling Association.
Julie also serves as the District’s Environmental Compliance Officer co-leading efforts to ensure our colleges are in compliance. Julie has also been an adjunct instructor for the district’s HSET program receiving high praise from her students.
Most recently, Julie has moved into a leadership role with the Chancellor’s Sustainability Initiative and has coordinated energy audits at MCC, recycling efforts at CCC and prairie plantings and creation of a bioswale at SCC. She is a leader in the accounting and measures necessary to meet the President’s Climate Change Commitment and the measures to meet our pilot testing for Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE). This past year she has been asked to be a presenter at various seminars and workshops on EICC’s Sustainability initiative.
Julie’s drive, determination, and “just do it” attitude is exemplified in whatever she takes on.
Renae Britt -
Chancellor’s Award Winner for Quality
Service
Library Technician II, Muscatine Community College
Since 1987, Renae Britt has been at MCC as a student, a student worker, a part-time and then full-time employee. Renae has the distinction of being mentioned by name by students in their graduation address because of the positive influence she has had on them during their time at MCC. She has been remembered as being helpful, making a difference, and always having a smile for everyone. Graduates from years past make a point to visit Renae when they come back in town because of the positive impact she had on them during their tenure at EICC.
Renae’s volunteer work for the American Cancer Society and United Way is legendary. She buys something from every student organization fundraiser. She also finds time to personally coordinate the freshman student participation in MCC graduation. From organizing students to lighting the candles, reading, handing out programs, etcetera, Renae makes a complex event go smoothly and calmly.
When students need information for their research, Renae will stop whatever she is doing to help them get it. Renae has made an effort to learn the fastest ways to get those hard-to-find sources and to get them mailed or faxed as soon as possible. Renae has taught herself how to repair just about anything that needs electricity from 16 mm projectors, to old overhead projectors, to visiting speaker’s laptops and LCD projectors, to digital cameras.
Renae contributes to the overall collegiality of the
college. She is the “heart and soul” of the
college. Many times faculty, staff and students gather around
her on late afternoons to eat some decadent chocolate concoction
she’s whipped up, and to celebrate their common place in the
world.
