Career Link

The Career Link pre-employment manufacturing training program is a partnership between Eastern Iowa Community College District and area industries.

You'll build the skills you need to get started in a manufacturing career, plus have an opportunity to qualify for preferential interviews with our partner companies and/or scholarships for additional training.

Topics include behaviors in the workplace, quality, problem solving, math, measurement, computer basics, OSHA safety, resume writing, communications, interviewing skills, team work and career exploration. (56-hours)

Computer Numeric Control (CNC) Machinist

With the movement of low-tech manufacturing jobs out of the United States, automation and high-tech jobs will be in high demand. CNC machinists use computer numerically controlled (CNC) machines to cut and shape precision products, such as automobile and machine parts.

You'll learn how to operate CNC machines include machining tools such as lathes, milling machines and wire electrical discharge machines (EDM) and gain the skills needed for an entry-level job in this high-tech field. (200 hours) $1,350*

Logistics Technician

Logistics is the link between manufacturers and customers, moving goods along the road from maker to buyer.  Logistics technicians are experts in: inventory control, warehousing, traffic management, location analysis, packaging, materials handling and customer service. 

The Quad Cities is a natural hub for the transportation industry, with excellent interstate, rail, river and air connections.  The need for people with good training and strong skills in logistics is higher than ever and will continue to grow. 

Starting pay ranges from $10 to $18 an hour.  Jobs are available with such diverse employers as shipping companies, carriers and government agencies. (160 hours) $700*

Manufacturing Assembler

In the past an assembly job was considered to be a highly physical, low skilled occupation. Many of these jobs have gone offshore to other countries with a lower paid workforce.

Today, manufacturing assemblers in the United States are highly skilled integrators of complex components. Our manufacturing assembly program teaches high level assembly skills and understanding of fasteners and torque, precision measurement, the proper use of assembly tools and equipment and have the ability to work at an incentive pace. (96 hours) $650* 

Highway Construction

The highway construction course is a grant-funded program that includes basic construction skills (safety, basic math, an introduction to hand tools, power tools, blueprint reading), flagger certification, job shadowing and an opportunity to obtain a class

A driver's license. No cost must be a woman or minority and an Iowa resident. (440 hours)
