Dental Assisting
Both classroom and online programs are available for students interested in entering the Dental Assisting field.

The classroom-based program is available at Scott Community College and is two semesters in length.

The Administrative Dental Assistant online certificate program teaches the essential administrative tasks for managing the business aspects of a dental practice and becoming an Administrative Dental Assistant. It includes instruction in dental terminology and anatomy, medical records management, accounts receivable and reimbursement management, insurance and patient billing, patient scheduling, and procedural and diagnostic coding.

Emergency Management Training for First Responders

Clinton, Muscatine and Scott Community Colleges offers both credit Emergency Management training as well as specified classes through its Continuing Education Department. Training in both areas can lead to employment as an emergency first responder.

The college also offers an online Emergency Management program, providing the necessary skills of the issues and concepts surrounding emergency management. The program reflects the practitioner and applied knowledge base, particularly lessons learned at local and state government levels.

Homemaker Home Health Aide

Home Care Aides provide in-home care services to the elderly, families with children, chronically ill patients, convalescents and those who are handicapped. They are trained to help take care of the home and family and teach sound hygiene, nutrition, disease prevention and good health practices.

Participants with Certified Nurse Aide, RN, LPN or other training may not need to attend the total program.

If the students do not get a passing score they can take a make-up test on the parts they failed. For more information call 563-336-3444.

Medical Billing and Coding

The online Medical Billing and Coding certificate program is designed to prepare students to fill positions for medical coding and billing professionals. Skilled medical billing and coding technicians are in high demand.

In recent years, there has been a rapid increase in medical tests, treatments, and procedures that will be increasingly scrutinized by health insurance companies, regulators, courts and consumers. Health care facilities are having difficulty attracting qualified workers.

Administrative Medical Specialist with Billing and Coding

The medical industry is experiencing a tremendous demand for individuals with knowledge of medical office operations, which includes billing and coding, processing insurance forms and using medical software. This program provides training on medical billing software, as well as preparation for the CCA national certification exam.

Advanced Coding for the Physician’s Office

The Advanced Medical Coding for the physician’s office online course and training program prepares students to learn CPT, ICD9-CN (Volumes I and II), and HCPCS Level II coding. The advanced online medical coding program is designed for students with previous medical coding experience. A basic coding education or the Gatlin Education Medical Specialist course is required. Preparation for the Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification exam is included.

Advanced Hospital Coding and CCS Prep

The Advanced Hospital Coding online course and Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) test prep training program prepares medical coding students to take the American Health Information Management Association’s (AHIMA) official certification exam to become a CCS. This program covers advanced ICD-9 medical coding procedures and is designed to help students meet the challenge of today’s changing standards while learning and improving their coding skills.

ICD-10 Billing and Coding

This course covers the recently upgraded diagnostic and procedural medical coding system and will soon be mandated by the Federal government for use in the healthcare industry in insurance processing, reimbursement and statistical data gathering. It teaches students how to prepare for and implement the massive changes to the existing coding system.

Students will receive a comprehensive overview of the changes in store for both diagnostic and procedural medical coding along with detailed information on the impacts of the medical coding changes to coders, healthcare staff, physicians, software systems, documentation and information technology.

Medical Transcription

According to the current Occupational Outlook Handbook, medical transcription is one of the 10 fastest growing occupations in the US. Healthcare providers rely on the legal documents that are created by the medical transcriptionist. This online program provides students with a working knowledge of medical terminology, as well as proficiency in the transcription of medical reports. Digital transcription equipment and all text books are included, as well as instructor contact information. Career development is also included.

Pharmacy Technician

This program teaches the skills needed to gain employment as a pharmacy tech in either the hospital or retail setting. The objective of the course is to provide graduates with the skills and knowledge to qualify for entry-level positions in pharmacies as well as prepare for national certification. This on-line program pairs students with an instructor for one-on-one assistance and includes a 40-hour externship. All materials are included.

Certified National Pharmaceutical Representative

This online training course (CNPR) and program was developed in response to a rising need for entry-level certified pharmaceutical sales representatives. The program is designed for individuals who want to gain entry into the pharmaceutical industry but who lack the required pharmacology and medical education.
