Health, safety and environmental technicians protect employees and the public by controlling hazards in the workplace. HSET professionals apply the principles of math, science, engineering, communications and economics to the protection of people, property and the environment. The HSET program focuses on environmental, health and safety regulations and compliance. Graduates are trained to assist an organization in the management of hazardous materials and wastes, to protect workers and the environment, and to minimize the organization's Worker's Compensation. The HSET program is offered via the Internet or by correspondence.

Job Outlook
Our graduates have jobs with titles such as environmental safety and health coordinator, industrial hygiene technician, environmental technician, safety coordinator, field technician, or hazardous materials technician. The trend today is toward hiring individuals who can handle both safety and environmental responsibilities.
Rising insurance costs, heightening awareness and concern for the environment, advancing regulations and technology as well as the creation of new job classifications in health, safety and the environment point to continued employment opportunities for HSET graduates. According to the American Society of Safety Engineers Foundation and the Board of Certified Safety Professionals, "The career opportunities for innovative safety professionals have grown faster than the number of trained and qualified individuals available."
Earnings
Earnings depend for the most part on work experience and ability or willingness to relocate. The HSET program is transferable to a four-year college or university for graduates who want to continue their education. Those who earn a four-year Bachelor's in Science degree in a safety-related field and then become certified as an Advanced Safety Practitioner (ASP) and later, a Certified Safety Practitioner (CSP) can earn up to $100 thousand a year.
