Sustainability Planning and Recommendations
The American College and University President’s Climate Commitment (ACUPCC) is a high-visibility effort to address global warming and to accelerate the research and educational efforts of higher education to equip society to re-stabilize the earth’s climate.
By joining the ACUPCC, colleges
and universities agree to create a plan to achieve climate
neutrality as soon as practically possible and to promote the
research and education needed to dramatically reduce GHG emissions
and re-stabilize the earth’s climate.
An open retreat on the topic of how EICCD could command a leadership role and contribute to local sustainability efforts was held for all interested EICCD faculty, staff and students.
Based on outcomes of the retreat, District-wide teams were formed to address priority issues of sustainability throughout the District.
The district-wide teams are responsible for developing action plans relating to the following areas:
One of the first formal initiative-related actions taken by the Eastern Iowa Community College District Board of Trustees in January 2008 was adoption of a sustainability policy to acknowledge the district’s goal of increasing sustainability in business and operation procedures, and to work in cooperation with the American College and University President’s Climate Commitment agreement which EICCD has signed.
