Skills 2010 is a promising economic indicator for eastern Iowa. As an outgrowth of an earlier study, it gives an employment forecast as well as a comparison to the past.
This is the third such survey conducted by Eastern Iowa Community College. The Skills 2000 survey predicted thousands of job openings, yet those openings were dominated by technology skills.
The Skills 2006 survey indicated the need for more than 6,000 jobs and a desire that future employees be prepared with the “softer” skills of communication, problem solving and teamwork.
The Skills 2010 Survey identified 14,596 openings for new and replacement workers who need training on workplace behaviors, interpersonal skills, teamwork and problem solving.
