The four, Ashli Czerwiec, Cortnie Eagle, Maddy Harmon and Leigha Strong, will stay in Muscatine to help continue the strong tradition of MCC softball.

Harmon, a speedy centerfielder, batted .500 for Muscatine last season, accounting for 79 hits, 73 of which were singles. Harmon stole 25 bases and was only caught stealing three times during Muscatine’s 35-11 campaign in 2006.

Czerwiec, a shortstop also known for her quickness, batted .397 with 58 hits. She had 48 singles, eight doubles, a triple and a homerun.

Both Harmon and Czerwiec were named second team all-state after the conclusion of the 2006 summer season.

Strong, a right fielder, batted .329 with 48 hits and had a fielding average of .932.

Eagle, known mostly for her power hitting, batted .228 with 23 hits, including seven doubles and a home run. She also was third-best on the team with fielding average with .968 at first base.

All five players were part of the 2006 Mississippi Athletic Conference championship team that was upset in the Class 4A regional semifinals by Burlington.

Because coaches are not allowed to talk about potential players until they have been signed, Beatty could not comment on the four players.
