Coaches Honor Two MCC Softball Players

MUSCATINE, Iowa - Muscatine Community College's nationally ranked softball team recently had two more players receive All-American honors. 
    
MCC sophomore outfielder Mandy Kerr, who earlier was chosen as a third-team All-American by the NJCAA, was named to the first team by the National Fast Pitch Coaches Association.

Freshman third baseman Ashley Hoffman was a second-team choice.

Kerr hit .490 during the regular season. The Davenport Central prep had 21 doubles, five home runs and drove in 46 runs.

Hoffman, who is from Centerville, hit at a .418 clip during the season. She led the team with 27 doubles and banged out seven home runs and had 49 RBI.

The Indians, who made their second consecutive appearance in the National Division II World Series, also has been selected as one of the finalists for National Academic Team of the Year.

To be eligible for the honor, which will be announced July 1, a school must have a team grade-point average of 3.3 or higher. Muscatine's was 3.39.
