Three MCC Players Named to All-American Team

MUSCATINE, Iowa - Honors continue to come in for Muscatine Community College's 2003 softball team. 
    
Three players from coach Scott Beatty's MCC squad were named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-American squad. 
    
Heidi Hart, who earlier was named a first-team choice of the National Junior College Athletic Association, was also named to the first team by the NFCA. 
    
The sophomore from Des Moines batted a team-best .459 the past season. She banged out 14 home runs, 22 doubles, four triples and drove in 79 runs. 
    
Hart, the Iowa Offensive Player of the Year, will play softball next year at Grandview College in Des Moines. 
    
Also named to the first team was freshman pitcher Janet Barker of Victor. 
    
Barker threw 209 innings en route to a team-best 24-5 record. She allowed 110 hits, struck out 156 and walked just 23. Barker posted a 1.22 ERA, allowing just 33 earned runs. 
    
MCC catcher Brandi Ramos of East Moline, Ill., was named to the second All-America team. 
    
Ramos caught nearly every inning the past two seasons. She hit .414 with four home runs, 17 doubles, a triple and 59 RBI. She also had a .979 fielding average. 
    
In addition to her athletic award, Ramos was named an Academic All-American after posting a 3.6 grade point average. 
   
The Indians also were honored as a team for a cumulative GPA of 3.03.
