Clinton Community College women’s volleyball coach Joe Shovlain has announced that Stephany Harris, a North Scott High School senior, and Ashley O’Neill, a Calamus-Wheatland High School senior, have signed NJCAA National Letters of Intent and Scholarship agreements to continue their volleyball careers at Clinton Community College.
Harris, a 5’8” outside hitter for North Scott High School, was a three-year varsity letter winner at North Scott and earned Second Team All MAC her senior year. She led her team in aces served for two years and total kills, finishing second in the MAC for kills her senior year.
Harris was twice named to the MAC All Academic Team for volleyball and was selected for the 2006 and 2007 IGHSAU Excellence in Academic Achievement Award. She has also been active with USVBA volleyball and youth ministry at Saint Ann’s church. The daughter of Jeff and Tracy Harris, she plans to major in business at CCC.
“We are very happy Stephany chose CCC to continue her volleyball career," Coach Shovlain said. "She was one of the top outsides hitters in the MAC and we look for big things from her next year at CCC.
"She is an excellent person as well as volleyball player. She had a great year at North Scott High School and I believe she has a great chance to be a great player here at CCC. With hard work the sky is the limit for Stephany.”
O'Neill, a multi-sport stand out, is a 5’7” setter/outside hitter for Calamus-Wheatland High School. She was the 2007 Big East Conference MVP in volleyball and was named to the third team All State and second team All District squads. She earned first team All Big East Conference her junior and senior years.
O'Neill was also named first team All Big East Conference in basketball her junior and senior years and was named third team All-State. She was honorable mention all conference in softball after her junior year. She was recognized on the All Big East All Academic team.
The daughter of Dennis and Vickie O’Neill of Wheatland, she plans to major in nursing.
“We are thrilled Ashley chose CCC over the other scholarship opportunities she had," Coach Shovlain said. "With Ashley’s athleticism we look for her to have an immediate impact on our program. Plus Ashley is an excellent student – she is just a great fit for our college and program.”
The 2008 CCC Volleyball season kicks off August 23 at the Black Hawk East Tournament in Kewanee, Illinois.
