Clinton Community College Volleyball officially opened the 2011 season in style Saturday, winning 4 out of 5 games and finishing 2nd in the 6th Annual Black Hawk Tournament in Moline Illinois. The Cougars went 3-0 in pool play; beating South Suburban 25-21, 25-18; Sauk Valley 26-24, 25-17; and St. Ambrose 25-20, 20-25, 15-12. Clinton went on to beat a tough Rock Valley team in the semi-finals 24-26, 25-23 and 15-7 before losing in a hard fought finals game to Black Hawk 26-28, 26-24 and 15-4.
Clinton High School graduate Haley Gruhn was named to the All-Tournament team for her efforts Saturday, recording 24 kills, 7 blocks, 7 aces and 13 digs. Delaney Blakely paced the Cougars with 26 kills, Amber Grant had 20 kills and Josie O’Donnell had 16 kills. Ashley Swanson led the Cougars with 81 assists and 11 aces. Mandi White led the Cougars with 67 digs while Kassandra Prier was 30-32 serving, and Kiara Williams was 16-16 serving with 15 digs.
The Cougars travel to Carl Sandburg August 29th before opening the home season Wednesday at 7pm at Yourd Gymnasium against Black Hawk East.
