Ways to Give

Your Support Will Change The Future

Student using microscopeEducation opens up worlds of opportunity for students, yet many people face challenges in pursuing an education.  Helping those students obtain a college education is an investment that stays in our community.

Recognized for excellence, Scott Community College has become the school of choice for more and more students. This ever-growing wave of students presents both great opportunity and great challenges. Among the most pressing of these challenges is meeting the financial need of these individuals.

In 2007, more than 400 students applied for scholarships from Scott Community College, but we were able to make awards to only about 50% of those students. Unless we take action, our ability to meet financial need will not keep pace with the growing student body nor with the increases in tuition.

Matching Gifts

As a donor to Scott Community College Foundation, you may be able to double or triple the impact of your outright gifts if your employer offers a matching gift program.  In most cases, all you need to do is complete a form that is available through your employer (often available through your Human Resources or Payroll Department).

Many employers sponsor matching gift programs and will match any contributions made by their employees.  To determine whether your company will match your gift, please review the attached alpha list.  If your company matches charitable gifts and is not listed, please contact the SCC Foundation at 441-4063.

If your company is eligible, request a matching gift form from your employer, and send it completed and signed with your gift to the SCC Foundation.  We will do the rest.  The impact of your gift may be doubled or possibly tripled!

It’s also important to note that some companies match gifts made by retirees and/or spouses.

In-Kind Gifts

(personal property such as vehicles, equipment or furnishings)
We welcome donations and services that, in turn, will benefit the school. The donor, through an appraisal, record of purchase, or billing statement determines the gift value. Gifts should follow the gift acceptance policy and guidelines.

Planned Gifts

  • Securities
Stocks, bonds and mutual funds are excellent ways to give, particularly if they have appreciated in value. Stock given to the SCC Foundation, held by the donor for more than 12 months, can be sold on the donor's behalf, with no capital gains tax. The full amount can be deducted as if the gift had been cash.

  • Bequests
A provision is made in a donor's will, through which the SCC Foundation receives cash and/or other assets at the time of the donor's death. Distributions can be made either as a specific dollar amount or as a percentage of the estate.

  • Life Insurance
Ownership of an existing policy transferred to the college is designated as the beneficiary and/or owner of a policy. Contact your financial advisor for advice on the transfer of your gift.
