Fundraising and Friendraising have been accepted as general goals of the MJC/MCC Alumni Association.
During the past year, the MJC/MCC Alumni Association awarded grants to the MCC Student Senate to help fund the annual Diversity Day, and to Phi Theta Kappa, Ag Tech Club, Business Professionals of America and the MCC Student Nurses Association to help with national convention expenses, and to the MCC Concert Choir for transportation expenses.
Other events this year included, purchasing and distributing cookies at the Welcome Back picnic in September, coordinating the annual "Taste of Education" fundraiser and hosting the graduation reception in May. Also, the MJC/MCC Alumni Association can now be found on Facebook.
Membership dues and proceeds from fund raising events are used to support general expenses of the association, fund a yearly scholarship and to provide support for special projects at the MCC campus.
Bylaws of the association approved 1995 state its purpose:
"The purpose of the Association shall be to encourage and cultivate social activity and good fellowship among the alumni of Muscatine Community College, to maintain and promote the loyalty of its alumni to MCC, and to assist in the accomplishment of the college's mission, and to promote the image and stature of MCC to the campus community and throughout the campus service area."
