The Occupational Supply Demand System
indicates that electromechanical technicians are expected to have a
three percent employment growth between 2006 and 2016. As Iowa’s and the
nation’s green energy program continue to grow, the need for the
technicians with this proposed program’s training is expected to grow
even more.
According to Bureau of Labor Statistics data, wages for engineering technicians in 2008 ranged from $14.84 to $38.70 per hour.
The Electromechanical program is new in 2010, but it has its roots in a similar program in the college’s Technical Studies area. The program has grown to a point that the college believed it was time to develop as a separate entity. In 2007-08 there were 44 students in the original program and in 2008-09 there were 62 such students.
