Background:

I became interested in the field of hazardous material and occupational safety and health in 1989 when I was employed at a footwear manufacturing company. My specific duties required me to handle and deliver a very large amount of hazardous materials in and around our facility.

I was also responsible for manufacturing the rubber cement that was utilized by the production department. This process generated a small amount of hazardous waste that was also my responsibility to collect, store, and prepare for shipment. As I performed these duties I realized that I was doing a lot of things that were dangerous to my health and the environment, and all without the proper training. The rest is history.

Education:

  • A.A.S. Degree in Hazardous Materials Technology from Scott Community College
  • Currently pursuing B.S.in Occupational Safety and Health
  • Certified Safety Manager - World Safety Organization
  • Authorized OSHA Outreach Trainer for both General Industry and Construction Industry Standards
  • Hazardous Waste Operation Emergency Responder (HAZWOPER)
  • SSPC C-3 Lead Abatement Supervisor
  • Certified Occupational Hearing Conservationist
  • NIOSH-Approved Spirometry Training to Perform Pulmonary Functions Testing

Experience:

My past work experience includes positions as the EH&S Director for a large painting contractor in Nauvoo, Illinois. This company is involved in painting, sandblasting, ultra high pressure waterjetting, and industrial sanitation, which includes the removal of coatings containing lead and other hazardous constituents.

Prior to this position I was the EH&S Director for a large machining company in Bettendorf, Iowa where I shared in implementing an oil and coolant recycling program the was recognized by the state of Iowa and received the Governors award for waste reduction and recycling. I have also been involved with the Painting and Decorating Contractors of America, and I am a past Chairman for the Industrial Painting Council's committee on Environmental, Health & Safety.

Interests:

Besides my work, I enjoy spending time with my grandsons, Jerry, Adam, & Caiden. When time allows, I also enjoy watching baseball and football, riding motorcycles, fishing, and playing guitar.
