Program Description
The Dental Hygiene program is designed to prepare graduates for positions in general and specialty dental offices, hospitals, schools, and public health/industrial agencies. Students are trained in educational methods and preventive clinical services which qualifies them as dental health educators and competent clinicians. Emphasis is placed on the correlation between prevention, education, and the clinical phases of dental hygiene practices as well as basic and social sciences. Dental Hygienists provide services such as: scaling and polishing the teeth, exposing radiographs, and applying fluoride and sealant to the teeth. Dental hygienists function as oral health educators in both private practice and community settings.
This program is available as a result of a cooperative partnership with Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Our partnership with Kirkwood Community College gives you the opportunity to take many of your classes (41 credits) through Eastern Iowa Community College District. Once accepted into Kirkwoods program, you will take your dental classes in Cedar Rapids and may be placed in your practicum sites in the Eastern Iowa District.
