Farm Management

Muscatine Community College

Program Description
Established in 1966, the Farm Management Program at Muscatine Community College is a comprehensive two-year production management program. We stress comprehensive because of the diverse courses that are offered. Virtually no stone is left unturned in our goal to educate and train highly skilled professionals. Students earn an Associate in Applied Science Degree upon successful completion of the program.

Individuals will be exposed to a wide variety of experiences in each course. Our instructional staff is constantly providing updated technical information to keep students abreast of rapidly-changing technology. Use of computers in the classroom encourages excellent record-keeping skills - an essential tool in any management situation. An advisory committee, that meets periodically to guide the program through changes, also provides assistance in this area.

Marketing, resource management, and risk management are the focus of the MCC Farm Management Program. Combine these aspects with viable work experience - a chance for students to learn about the subject matter in the real world - provides students with one of the most comprehensive management programs available. The two-year program consists of four 16-week semesters and two 4-week summer sessions. Classes allow for individual attention; you will not be just another number at Muscatine Community College.

The ag faculty takes pride in the fact that the job placement rate for graduates seeking gainful employment is 100 percent. The faculty serves as immediate placement coordinators following graduation and will assist any graduate in seeking career moves after graduation.

Employment Experience
The most important criteria for choosing a career is to choose something you like to do. In this production-based program, work experiences are designed to help you discover that. You will be challenged to explore all the possibilities available...to set your goals high and achieve them.

Whichever Agribusiness & Technology Program an individual is enrolled in, one thing is certain: he or she has the opportunity to engage in an employment experience each semester. Few programs in the state offer this distinct advantage to students.

Students have the opportunity to gain experience in a variety of areas including animal or crop production, agricultural chemicals, farm management, horticulture, or something completely different. Students work where they want to work and the learning opportunities are almost limitless. MCC Agribusiness and Technology Program advisors assist the students in making their employment choices so that each student can achieve his/her own desired goals and objectives.
