Getting Started > Academic Advising >

New students at Clinton, Muscatine and Scott Community Colleges will meet with an Academic Advisor who can assist them in enrolling in the correct classes. Your advisor will be familiar with your chosen field of study and can help you in:

Making a Class Schedule
Your advisor will make sure you enroll in the proper classes and get you on the path to success. This includes reviewing your asessment scores (or ACT scores if you have taken that test) and matching that up to the appropriate level course. If you haven't complete the college's assessment, your advisor will also help schedule that for you.

Changing a Schedule
If, after making and submitting your class schedule, you discover that you need to make a change, your advisor will work with you to determine which classes you should change to, and make sure you take care of the proper adds and drops.

Preparing for Graduation
One of the most exciting parts of attending classes is when you finish. Not that we want you to leave us, but graduation is what it's all about. Your advisor will help you stay on track so that you don't waste your time taking classes you don't need, or taking them out of sequence which might delay your graduation.

Transferring to Another College
If you intend to transfer to a four-year institution once you graduate from here, your advisor will keep you on the right track there, too. Depending on which college you intend to transfer to, or program you intend to enter, the classes you need to take may vary. Don't worry, we have formal transfer agreements with all of the state universities and area private colleges, so your credits will transfer once you graduate. Your advisor is like your an insurance policy that makes sure everything goes smoothly.
